Just finished legend yesterday, overall solid mid 2000's adventure game with clear indicators and what you can and cannot do when traversing the environment. Lastly, and an opinion, I actually prefer how the characters look without next-gen graphics. Secondly, you won't get the wet and drying effects when leaving water. Firstly, it's very buggy, with missing elements and crashes. ONE PIECE OF ADVICE: Don't activate next-gen graphics for Legend. I know some say to play Anniversary first, but I like playing in release order, because it's easier moving to a game with better controls (as sequels tend to have), than going to a game with less refined controls, which would happen if you went from anniversary to legend.Īlthough, in the end, everyone has opinions and the main thing is that you enjoy them in whatever order you play. People will have differing opinions which are better.

The Survivor series is a very different take. To be honest, the Legend series is closer to original Tomb Raider in terms of style. The gun fights are also more stylised, with flips and dives.

I think that's actually a plus though, as they flow better. They're more level based without the wide-open exploration, and no backtracking to past areas. Those levels were some of the best visually from Crystal Dynamics imho. Those were some of the best graphics at the time and I genuinely loved how lush and vast some of the areas felt, like Thailand and Southern Mexico. What I did enjoy was the exploration aspect of it. I don’t remember much from it since it’s been a while, but I remember that the story was a bit lackluster and left much to be desired. Underworld had a loooooot of hype when it released, and in some ways it disappointed in that manner. I personally think it was the best in the trilogy imo. Anyone can say what they want but I thought it was good.

I felt like I was in a movie the entire time I played, which was an interesting experience as someone who grew up with the classics.Īnniversary was a solid recreation of the first game. I wish it were more focused on puzzles but the fact that it was action-oriented didn’t necessarily hurt it. Underworld: Disappointing but not terrible. Undoubtedly others will disagree, and despite my review, I'd still recommend playing Underworld as you may like it a lot more than I did, and it does have it's redeeming qualities. No spoilers, but I was not satisfied, nor was I really all that engaged. most of it ranges from okay to semi-interesting but ultimately the payoff for the major plot points is a bit of a letdown. Unlike with its two predecessors, where the gameplay felt weighty and grounded, Underworld's gameplay is floaty and loose. Mechanically, it's very similar to the previous two games, but it feels so much worse. The gameplay is probably the worst downgrade for me.

It's got some visually impressive moments for sure, but a lot of it's kinda generic scenery, unlike Legend and especially Anniversary, where ever area felt unique and diverse. Underworld is, in my (apparently unpopular) opinion, the weakest of the three. It has such a unique and memorable vibe too, at least to someone who played it as a kid. The story is top notch, and the environmental design is incredible. The gameplay is mostly identical to Legend so still great. The graphics hold up really well by today's standards, at least on PC. Great atmosphere, great visuals, fantastic gameplay even by today's standards, and an engaging story to boot.Īnniversary is easily my favourite of the three.
